Big Fish Story Bio

Brian Riecke and Michael Chamness met in 1988 while attending Iliff School of Theology in Denver, and began their friendship around a love of guitars and contemporary praise music. Following seminary, Michael was appointed to the Desert Southwest Conference and Brian stayed in Rocky Mountain, where he continued to hone his songwriting skills.

By 1997 Big Fish Story had begun to take shape at Montclair UMC in Denver, with Michael traveling to help record the first CD, Here in This Place, and participate in occasional worship leading and concert events. Since that time, BFS has recorded two more CD's, What Shall We Become and Grateful, all primarily of Brian's original music. At present, both Brian and Michael are appointed to churches in the Rocky Mountain Conference.

BFS has done concerts, praise festivals, Conference and District youth events and contemporary music workshops, as well as keynote speaking and worship leading in Colorado, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Wyoming and Montana. In 2007 BFS was asked to be the worship band for the national GBHEM Student Form in Tacoma, WA.

Current staff, including Anne (Coen) Chamness, Brian Monroe and Randy Anderson has been together since 2004. Russell Stewart, a member of our "extended family" and a current student at Iliff, has lent his vocal and worship leading talents to several recent performances, for which we are grateful.
